Phuket Top Team's Anthony Leone took on Zack Makovsky (14-3)
Zack "Fun Size" Makovsky had been on an 8 fight winning streak and taken the Bellator Bantamweight Championship Title before dropping a loss and his title to Eduardo Dantas (14-3).
Zack Makovsky was the favorite to take the win over Anthony Leone, who opened the betting lines as the +300 severe underdog.
Anthony spent 5 months training like an animal with us - working his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu under Prof. Olvao Abreu, his muay thai with Nonsai Sor Sanyakorn and Samkor Kiatmontep and the muay thai team.... while his MMA striking was with Richy Green and the team of fighters including his brother Andrew Leone (one fc) JJ Ambrose (Bellator) Adam Kayoom (one fc) Rodrigo Praxedes (URCC Champion/one fc) Brad Terrey (urcc) and many other guys who come through and fight out of PTT.
This fight brings Anthony a huge step in his career. The WEC, Strikeforce now Bellator fighter - Leone is looking for gold and has now earned a shot in the Bantamweight tournament for the Bellator title.
Below is a Pre-Fight Interview, the Bellator 83 weigh in's and finally the fight!
Anthony knew he was facing one of the best Bantamweight wrestlers in MMA, he not only stuff the shots and got back to his feet, but also went for his own. While there is no huge knockout - we see a very technical battle with 2 world class wrestlers/grapplers.
Leone shows dominance and controls the wrestling, transitions and controls the Jiu Jitsu and lands the much better hands and middle kicks. A great showing, next is the title run!
